First-look comparison of Claude Design vs Nemanja's Hermes-based design pipeline. Claude Design wins on out-of-the-box quality for one-off work. Hermes wins for automated recurring pipelines. Firecrawl brand extraction as the bridge between the two.
Nemanja's Existing Hermes Design Workflow
Before Claude Design:
- Feed a blog post or topic link to Hermes
- Research agent adds context
- Output folder receives presentation assets: images, slides, thumbnails, content packages
Cost: approximately $2 per session, 5-10 minutes. Compared to hiring a designer: $100-200, days of waiting.
Claude Design: What It Does
Single-prompt generates full multi-slide presentations with:
- Professional transitions and section layouts
- Accurate product type inference (marketplace vs SaaS vs service) from context
- Real-time Figma-style editing: change font size, accent colors, swap themes inline
- Export to PDF, presentation, or Claude Code for further tweaks
- GitHub integration: link a repo and it pulls your existing design system automatically
The Firecrawl design system trick: Input any competitor or inspiration site URL. Firecrawl scrapes it and returns brand tokens (colors, buttons, typography). Claude Design uses that as the design system basis. This enables on-brand asset generation from any public site.
Out-of-the-Box Quality Comparison
Same prompt fed to both Claude Design and Claude Code (with skill). Result:
Claude Design: Correctly understood PressWiz as a marketplace, not a PR service. Better visual quality, closer to desired output without extra context. More refined typography and layout decisions.
Claude Code + skill: Required more context to reach the same quality. Some aesthetic choices (3D buttons) were less refined. Good for bootstrapping.
Nemanja's verdict: "The Claude Design output was much better, and it was closer to what I wanted without iteration."
How to Integrate Into Hermes Pipeline
- Generate the design in Claude Design (one-off, manual step)
- Export it
- Reference the exported design in your Hermes skill prompt for the code build phase
The design layer and execution layer remain separate. Hermes runs the workflow that calls the design tool. It does not need to understand design; it just needs the output asset.
When to Use Which
| Scenario | Tool |
|---|---|
| First-draft brand exploration, client pitches | Claude Design |
| One-off presentation creation | Claude Design |
| Recurring automated content pipelines | Hermes with design skill |
| Need output as code from the start | Claude Code with skill |
| Chaining into a Hermes workflow | Claude Code output |
Limitation of Claude Design: Credit-hungry. You will exhaust Claude credits quickly if generating at volume. The Hermes pipeline with skills is more cost-efficient for recurring work.
